NCLEX-PN Study Guide — High-Yield Terms & Concepts
220+ high-yield terms & concepts for the Practical Nursing Licensure Exam (LPN/LVN)
Pass the NCLEX-PN — the computerized adaptive test (CAT) that licenses licensed practical nurses and licensed vocational nurses (LPN/LVN) in every U.S. state and territory — with a focused, high-yield concept review built for the current (2026) NCSBN Test Plan. The exam is a true adaptive test: the computer re-estimates your ability after every item and selects each next question to match, so no two candidates see the same path — 85 to 150 items total within a 5-hour time limit that includes all breaks, with 15 unscored pretest items on every exam. Clinical judgment is measured across roughly 10% of stand-alone items plus three case studies (6 items each) using the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model, and content is weighted across the eight client-needs categories — Coordinated Care 18–24%, Safety & Infection Prevention and Control 10–16%, Health Promotion and Maintenance 6–12%, Psychosocial Integrity 9–15%, Basic Care and Comfort 7–13%, Pharmacological Therapies 10–16%, Reduction of Risk Potential 9–15%, and Physiological Adaptation 7–13% (±3%). The result is pass-fail only: you pass when your ability estimate is at or above the NCSBN passing standard, decided by the 95% CI rule, the maximum-length rule, or the run-out-of-time rule — there is no fixed pass percentage and it is not curved. The exam is delivered by Pearson VUE at a test center, your ATT and ID are required on test day, results arrive through your board of nursing within 6 weeks (paid Quick Results where available), and retake timing is set by your board (commonly 45 days). The guide teaches 238 high-yield terms and concepts across 12 parts — the NCLEX-PN and how CAT works, clinical judgment and NGN item types, Coordinated Care, Safety & Infection Prevention and Control, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, Basic Care and Comfort, Pharmacological Therapies, Reduction of Risk Potential, Physiological Adaptation, maternal-newborn/pediatrics/special populations, and a CAT strategy and test-day playbook — each concept pairing key facts with a strategy tip and a clinical example, plus NGN formats (SATA, bow-tie, matrix, highlight, cloze/drop-down, ordered response).
