SAT study guide vs Khan Academy — when free isn't enough

Khan Academy is genuinely free and genuinely good — it's a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide "a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere" (khanacademy.org/about), it carries 840+ free courses, and its SAT prep is the official partner of College Board. Their own SAT page says it plainly: "Maximize your score with free Official SAT® Prep"; "We partnered directly with College Board, the creators of the SAT"; "Access all of our SAT prep materials for free—anytime, anywhere"; and "SAT practice on Khan Academy is world-class SAT prep that's effective and 100% free" (khanacademy.org, September 2026). If you have months of prep time, a consistent study routine, and an internet connection, start there. (Khan also offers an optional paid AI tutor, Khanmigo — we don't price it here; the SAT prep itself is free.)

But free isn't the same as fast. Khan's strength is guided, long-form practice — that takes hours of setup and self-discipline, and the content lives online behind a login. Our guide is the opposite: 185+ high-yield terms and concepts for the Digital SAT, organized for active recall, in a downloadable PDF you can flip through the night before the test or on the bus. One flat $19, yours forever, no account, no streak to maintain.

The practical move for most students: use Khan Academy for question practice and video review, and keep a one-time reference guide for the vocabulary and concept foundation. The guide costs less than a month of coffee and never expires.
